You throw the ball, you hit the ball, and you catch the ball….

Sounds like an easy game to me!! Of course, the technique implemented to throw the ball is paramount to the success of any ball club. Lets take a look at the numbers of our star hurlers at this junture of the season.

At the top of the charts sits Mr Lincecum. Off to a great start to follow up his Cy Young Award winning season of ’09, with no reason to beleive he will not have another stellar season. 4 starts, 4 wins, a microscopic WHIP of .93, and an ERA of 1, and 32 Ks, lincecum easily satisfies every column in your pitching category.

Next on the list is Roy Halladay. With a complete game shutout in his last start, Halladay also improved to a 4-0 start. With nearly identical numbers as Lincecum, (4-0, ERA of .82, and WHIP of .88) It would be understandable if the first and second slots were flip flopped. Should make for an exiting Cy Young run this season!!

A couple of guys I find interesting this season so far are Mike Pelfrey  and Barry Zito. Pelfrey is off to a great start, (3-0 (and a no decision in a rain shortened game in which pelfrey threw 5 scoreless and the Mets won 1-0) 1 save in the freakish 20 inning marathon in St Louis, and ERA of .86, an ERA of 1, and 16 K). While the Mets are currently on a hot streak, Pelfrey has succeeded with little run support. Lets wait and see on Pelfrey, with an ownership %age of only 49.5 (ESPN) we will check back after his next few starts to see if it is time to make a move.

Barry Zito is more familiar name. With disappointing ’08 & ’09 seasons, Zito has so far shown his former expertise (3-0, ERA of 1.32, WHIP of .84 and and 19K) The Giants lefty is in 10th season at age 31, and commands one of the best breaking balls in the game. I would check your league wire and see if he is available. Like Pelfrey, Zito gets more ground balls than strikeouts, so just be sure your K column can be competitive with mediocre production from either of these hurlers. Zito and Pelfrey will be insrumental in your WHIP and ERA brackets, and may put up 15- 18 wins each to boot.

That’s all for this week, hope you all fared well in your leagues as I did (7-3-0 h2h and up to 3rd place roto, checking in with 71 points), play smart, and most of all have fun!!

Great tips to follow. Being professional and showing them there’s more to come I think are the most important. You need to give them a great article, that makes them want to come back. And then make sure you don’t disappoint.
