War Over Card Games Continues
The local paper has published another article about the fight over the gambling laws in South Carolina. I am glad to say that lately there has been quite a bit of news on the subject; hopefully it will open the eyes to those that are blind to the fact that card and dice games are illegal in the state. It surprises me that folk are so ignorant to the laws. I have actually had some in conservations think that I was full of bullshit when I tell them of these ridiculous laws that have been on the books since 1802.
In 2006 police raided a friendly poker game in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Police issued all 22 participants in the games citations for gambling and confiscated more than $6,000. With the help of the Poker Players Alliance a couple of the men have fought the charges and it has been since then that some S.C. politicians have talked about updating the law.
Surprisingly enough though we still have many Republican Senators in the state of South Carolina (even our own Governor Haley), and across the United States that have stated that they will fight any form of legalized poker and or gambling. Previously I reported about Sen. Ray Cleary of Murrells Inlet (R) chastising other Republicans for railing against the so-called nanny state when it comes to federal health care, yet turn right around and oppose an in home social gambling bill.
