S.C. Sen. Ford to lead Gaming Hearings

Things are moving right along here in the State of South Carolina on the gaming law issues. In today’s Post and Courier they have a headline about the hearings that have been scheduled .
According to the article, public hearings are scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in North Charleston City Hall and March 30, at 5:30 p.m. in Greenville County Council Chambers.
Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell is betting that hearings will generate enough support to pass legislation that will finally legalize friendly poker games and church raffles in this state. He says that “I believe we can build a base of support across South Carolina that will make this General Assembly move.” Lets all hope that he is right, I for one think that the time is right. We all must get out and show our support though and not let the “moral right wing conservative” followers keep our rights from us.
Sen. Robert Ford from Charleston,a Democrat, leads the hearings. He said it is important that the state straighten up its antiquated gaming laws, some of them dating all the way back to 1802 that prohibits both card and dice games.
To read the bills just log on to the Statehouse web site and search by bill number — 535 and 560.
