S.C. Bill Seeks to Change Poker Laws

Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell said the South Carolina state’s anti-card, anti-dice laws are relics that need to be changed and has introduced a bill that would legalize what he termed “social gambling” and events held for charity. This is a plus for the industry and I hope it will pass .

“The law is antiquated,” McConnell, R-Charleston, said of the law that dates back to 1802 and makes illegal any game of chance with cards or dice. If you went strictly by the law that would even make Monopoly and Rummy illegal !

“It was written in another time, and government has no business micromanaging people’s lives and the choice they make on the games that entertain them,” Sen. McConnel said.

This is the second time in recent years that a lawmaker has tried to pass legislation aimed at legalizing friendly poker games here in good old South Carolina. All previous attempts died though when the conservatives killed it in a committee. Lets all hope that this time the bill succeeds !
