PartyPoker Cause Uproar
The online poker room PartyPoker have upset a large number of their play money members after taking the decision to limit the amount of play money poker chips that a player can hold in their account.
The decision saw PartyPoker place a cap of 250,000 chips on the accounts of free play money players, although they have not capped or altered the chip counts of real money players who also look to play the free chips.
The chips carry no value other than the opportunity for players to brag about their virtual wealth but the site have decided that they were going to place the cap regardless.
Tuesday morning saw the cap come into force, with some players who had spent years acquiring their millions of virtual chips finding that they had now had their wealth cut down to 250,000.
It has come to light that the decision to cap the play chips was down to a tip that there was a black market forming where free account players were selling each other chips outside of the terms and conditions of the sites policy.
An email that was sent to one of the affected players offered a different reasoning for the action to have come into action, saying “For the benefit of the vast majority of our play money players, we have taken the decision to restrict the maximum number of play chips any single player may earn to (250,000 chips) because a very small minority of poker players have been disrupting games by betting large amounts on any kind of hand. They may think it’s fun but it’s certainly not for other players who understand fair play and enjoy the fun and excitement of playing poker games for free.”
The site then issued a statement to say that they do not support unfair behavior at either their free or real money tables, saying that the move to cap the chips was “for your benefit”.
PartyPoker might have just dealt themselves a very poor hand with this decision, with a number of angry members heading into the poker community to share their stories, declaring that they will no longer be using the PartyPoker site for their free online poker play.
Finally, when asked about the thoughts of the brand following the huge amount of backlash that had come from the decision, the company just stated that the decision will stand and they will not be reversing the move.
European Gambler thinks:
This is really hard for me to understand because i have never played poker for fun.
I just dont understand how you can play “play money poker” because from what i have seen it is just not serious poker.
Why on earth would you not rather spend your time playing in a poker freeroll tournament where you can win real money instead!
Yes, there are also a lot of maniacs in freerolls, but it is still a whole other level than play money games and you might even get paid a little for the time you have spendt!
