NC State vs. Duke – and More…
Hello and welcome to another weekly installment looking at North Carolina Sports!
Last week was a tough week for “triangle” sports teams – that is, teams that play around the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area. NC State lost an intrastate game to Wake Forest. Carolina lost to Virginia despite being nearly a two touchdown favorite. And Duke played nobly, but lost in the end to Virginia Tech. East Carolina won a big game, defeating Marshall on the road.
This week, these are the matchups:
Georgia South at Carolina – 3:30pm (Game off the board)
Duke at NC State (-15.5) – 4:00pm
Maryland at Wake Forest (-12.5) – 6:30pm
E. Carolina (-7) at Southern Methodist
If there ever was a nearly sure thing with in gambling, look no further than the matchup between Duke and NC State. Duke played a tough game against Virginia Tech and while they lost, they got a lot of confidence. Duke’s passing attack has been great – leading the ACC in yards per game. Meanwhile, NC State’s secondary is beat up. Nobody takes Duke seriously, but this game is a wake up call. I’d take the Blue Devils straight up – but getting more than two touchdowns, this is a great play. My prediction, Duke 31, NC State 20
In the NHL, the Hurricane’s got off to an awful start, losing 2 of their first 3… plus their star player in Erik Cole is out with a broken leg. The canes are going to have to play better – the team is expensive for the market and if the team isn’t in a position to win mid-season they will be disbanded. Games this week include Southeast division rivals Florida on Friday and Tampa bay on Saturday.
Back to football, the Panthers return from their week off with a game against Washington. Believe it or not, the Panthers are favored by 3.5 points. They are playing at home where they were 8-0 in the regular season last year, but this is not the same team. Washington enters the game 2-2… Barely. Their two wins are against bottom echelon teams – the Rams and Bucs by a combined 5 points. Coming off a bye week and playing a demoralized Redskins team, I have to give the points and go with the Panthers in a low scoring ugly game: 14-10.
Until next week, North Carolina!

I have to agree with your pick on the Panther Redskin game. Although I do hope that the Redskins win.Tough one for me really…been a Skin fan since I was a kid, but like Carolina too because it's "our team".
Hate when those two play. lol
In collage football, Carolina Gamecocks should beat Kentucky today if they don't blow it.
