NC State a 2010 ACC Power?

I wrote last time about North Carolina’s challenges on the field in light of the problems dealing with an NCAA invesitgation. And Carolina fared an awful 0-2 in their first 2 games which should have proved the Tarheels a national title competitor. The Tarheels may get a few wins before their schedule gets more difficult. but if they want a bowl bid they need to get their players back on the field.

Previously, we went against the so called experts and called for the Carolina Panthers to pull a 6-10 season. Even that looks like it may be overachieving. The loss in week 1 was understandable, but the way they lost, at home, to Tampa Bay in week 2 was embarassing. Matt Moore was pulled earlier than I predicted – and Claussen has a lot to learn about running an NFL offense.

But the meat of this article has to be NC State. I hope the title doesnt prove a jinx ! The team has surprisingly opened their 2010 campaign with a 3-0 record. Their offense has put up over 100 points… And their defense has given up about 15 ppg. QB Wilson has been electric completing an average of 19 passes per game for average of 13 yards per completion. And he’s hit 56% of his attempts. Plus they’ve got several guys who can run the ball, with three players averaging over 4 yards per carry!

NC State’s win have come against Western Carolina, Central Florida, and Cincinnati. The two most recent games were against middle tier Big East teams. That hardly makes them a football powerhouse, but its a start. The real test comes this weekend against Georgia Tech.

Another perfect NC school? Appalachian State, the perennial FCS power is 3-0 including a big win at Chattanooga.
