Hypocrisy Wins Again
Hypocrisy wins again. There, I have said it. Here in the state of South Carolina people like to talk about how conservative they are and how they believe in the freedom of adults. There has actually been a lot of discussion about freedoms from folk all across the United States this year, especially coming from the right wing and the Tea Partiers. That is until you mention the rights to play poker or gamble.
The newly elected Governor Nikki Haley (R) spoke numerous times during her campaign about how she would protect the rights of citizens. She also mentioned she could bring jobs, but her party the GOP has blocked every measure against penalizing and stopping tax breaks for those companies that outsource their jobs ( www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/28/gop-chamber-of-commerce_n_741970.html ), costing jobs for many Americans. But lets get back on the freedom issue. She speaks out about freedoms, yet she opposes changing the old outdated laws that make all games of cards and dice illegal in South Carolina ( www.carolinagambler.com/south-carolina-gambling-laws/ ). Is it protecting freedom when you dictate what adults can do in the privacy of their own homes? I guess freedom is good, as long as it is what Nikki Haley finds to be acceptable behavior.

I had someone tell me that gambling was addictive and destroyed homes and that was reason enough to make it illegal. Guess what folks, there are many things in life that can become addictive and destroy homes: the Internet, game systems, laziness, and even sex. Yeah you heard it, sex. Sex in and outside the home has destroyed many families lives as well as cost many people their life savings. So by the moral rights standards we should make it all illegal.
And I don’t even want to hear about how the Bible speaks out against gambling…..What about the bingo games and raffles held in churches today? For those that are unaware, they both are forms of gambling. The Bible also speaks against sex outside of marriage. It says for those that must have sex it is better to marry, than to burn in hell ( 1 Corinthians 7 ). So should we have the government make laws that ban all sex outside of marriage whether it’s in our own homes or not? Of course not. But the moral right still insist that gambling should be illegal. The moral right and Nikki Haley believe in freedom only as long as it is based on principles that they feel is right. Yep, hypocrisy wins again….
