Fantasy Diamond:Waive em or save em??
As we near the Mid Summer Classic, the halfway point of the 2010 campaign, we need to take a close look at our players that are gonna carry us through the home stretch, to our fantasy glory, just try not to break your leg celebrating!!.So,this week lets take a look at those overrated, over paid, underachieving cry baby millionaires that call themselves professional baseball players!!
One pre season hottie that now looks more like a mid season nottie is Matt Weiters (C BALTOR). I was a preseason fan of this aspiring young backstop, as were many. ESPN ranked him 5th among catchers, and why not, coming off a promising 2009 season, albeit split with minor league (96 games in the show), Matt hit .288, OBP of 340, and slugging %age of 412, He surely showed some promise. However, this season, Matt checks in with an embarrassing .223 avg, just 5 homers, and on OBP of just 289, and with so many viable options available, It may be time to dismiss Mr. Weiters. Now, if you are a gambler, I would take a look at Buster Posey ( C 1B SFGIA). Recently slumping, but shows great poise and confidence for a rookie. Thus far Buster is posting a 303 avg with a slugging percentage of .421. Another facet I like is the fact that he is 1st base and C eligible, and the fact that the Giants are a slightly better team than the Orioles ( but then again, so is girl scout troop 367).
Now across the diamond in SF is Pablo Sandoval (3B SFGIA). Now, I’m not a big fan of “Kung Fu Panda” as he is affectionately called, and am having some trouble interpreting his stats. First a look at 2009>> .330 avg, 90 ribs, 25 taters. Quite impressive. As for 2010 so far Panda man has just 6 dingers, 36 driven, and sporting a lowly 280 avg. Now that being said, a further break down of the numbers shows a different story. Pablo is actually ahead of his numbers from last year over the same period!! On June 1st of 09, Sandoval was looking at just 3 yard balls and 20 ribs. So, it would appear the best is yet to come for the Panda, if history holds true. Of course with 1 year under the 23 year olds belt, that’s not a lot to go on. I say stick with Sandoval, a bit of a gamble I know, but he may prove he is worth is weight in gold!!
Hope you all had prosperous weeks on the virtual diamonds!! Your truly posted a 9-1-0 in H2H (takes modest bow), BUT fell to 4th and 5th in ESPN and Yahoo Rotos, respectfully after 3 DTD’s cost me dearly, (rescinds bow and kicks self in ***). Wishing you monster scoring, and until next week, research, research, research, and most of all have fun!!

Big tip of the cap to Edwin Jackson (SP ARIZDBACK)for pitching Arizonas second ever no hitter. Workman like at best with 8 BB, but good enough to get him in the record books!!
