The hot news here in the Carolinas and at the sportbooks is all about the Carolina Panthers. The NFL team announced that it has released QB Jake Delhomme. Delhomme has been with the Panthers since 2003 and had done some great things for the team.

The move comes after Delhomme threw a total of 18 interceptions this past season. And the year before in the Divisional Playoffs he threw five interceptions against the Arizona Cardinals costing the Carolina Panthers a shot at it’s second Super Bowl and fans started to scream for a new starting QB.

Said a very emotional Coach Fox at a news conference this morning, “It’s an eight-year friendship, and in this league a quarterback and coach are very tied. We’ve both had some good success. . . . He’s done great things for this team, two championship games, a Super Bowl that was almost a comeback victory and (58-40) record in eight years. I’m not sure I’ve had any more respect for an NFL football player than Jake Delhomme.”

Delhomme won’t be hurting none though, he’s still owed almost 13 million dollars on his contract and with this being an uncapped year in the NFL it keeps the Carolina Panthers from suffering any salary cap consequences .

In this fans eyes I think it would be wise to let coach Fox go as well and start fresh. I think he and Delhomme both have done all they were able to for the team and it’s time to think of the future. With only a one year contract I don’t think he’ll be back for 2011 regardless unless he pulls out some sort of miracle season.

Some fans are wanting Micheal Vick as the new quarterback for the team, and there is talk that he’d like to come to Carolina, but I personally hope that does not happen. At the moment Matt Moore has been named starting QB. He done decent last year and I think he may just prove to be a pretty good quarterback for the team.

It will be interesting to see how the Carolina Panthers do this year with the new QB behind the center, and we wish Jake Delhomme all the best and thanks for some good years .
